The Last Blog Post. And my internet is screwed..

Finally this is my last and apparently my internet is going bonkers, and I had to use my Phone’s LTE in order to post it..I know, advertising has seriously sucked the life out of me.
During the entire day, all I think about is advertising..cause of the workload.
While passing by an OOH or watching an advertisement online, TV all I can think is, “What’s the story behind this ad, how did the ad agency arrive to this conclusion” SAD, isn’t it?
The only things I learnt in this Programs; Advertising Account management is how to do a Market Research, Consumer Research, Build a Campaign using various strategies, ASC Standards, IMC elements, Media buying and selling (BOI) Creative Ad execution, write TV/Radio script and design story boards and couple of more things..but MEH!  That’s all I learnt by the end of this awful program.
So this is the final blog post and then I’ll finally sleep peacefully, without worrying to write another blog post tomorrow…or maybe I will continue writing it.. or maybe not.. BAH!

Good Bye folks!

Shock Top Brewing Co.

So, this is one of the funniest beer commercial I’ve seen. I mean a talking BEER? Damn! I need it!
This commercial justifies its slogan pretty nicely by having a speaking Beer Face on an OOH, who talks to these random people passing by. He makes personal comment to allure them towards him, and then does the cool talk in order to portray his personality as a hunk.

In my opinion this ad is very effective and definitely does justice to the brand.

Justin Beiber’s Calvin Klein Commercial

Okay, for real..GUYS?! HOMIES!!!! My advertising buddies, are you on CRACK?! What demon has possessed you to think it’s okay to advertise MEN’s UNDERWEAR with ‘DUSTBIN BIEBER?’

And Calvin Klein, what were you thinking when some advertising agency proposed this idea to you?

Some advertising agency: So we did a Market Analysis for your brand, and we found that your Target Audience is ‘Females’ ranging from 18-21 with a HHI of $150 million+ living in Canada.
Calvin Klein people: Okay, That sounds perfect!

Some advertising agency: So our Advertising objective should be To Destroy brand’s image by 90% amongst ‘Females’ ranging from 18-21 with HHI of $150 million+ living in Canada
Calvin Klein: Hmm, that is interesting. So who do you suggest we should have in the ads?

Some advertising agency: After extensive research we suggest to feature none other than Justin Bieber for the commercials.
Calvin Klein: WOW! So with Justin Bieber we can actually target both FEMALES and Males…..Sounds Good
Said NO ONE EVER!

Twitter or FaceBook? or Both?

I’ve been asking myself this question for the past couple of years…Stick with Facebook or Join twitter or BOTH?
Grr, after watching so many TV series, news channels, and ads which all had a twitter handle or a contest in which one could participate by tagging the concerned person by using the handle was too damn high, so I finally decided to try it out-and.. *drum roll* I was NOT impressed.
Yes, I didn’t like it because it’s way too much work for me – just kidding.
Twitter is a very good social networking website, but Facebook has more to offer than twitter.
1.       I’ve been using it for ages – NOT
2.       Facebook allows you to bug your friend’s via personal chat and GROUP chats as well. Yes, I’m talking about you PURINA GROUP!
3.       You can a get a million notifications by just commenting on others posts. (I’m so popular)
4.       You can write your whole life story as a status update… You know why? Cause it has an UNLIMITED TEXT LENGTH! –Like a boss.

The many reasons why I ‘like’ Facebook over twitter. –Drops the mic-

Introduction

Hey guys, my name is Bhavukk Choudry. I’m a passionate photographer and an advertising student who got inspired to get into Advertising because of this awe-inspiring TV series called The Mad Men. I know right, MAD MEN..!
Anyways, I have an Under Grad in Journalism and Mass Communication which helped me with…erm..? O_o
I worked in diverse fields like events, journalism, media to purify my skills and chase the new found love for advertising.

This career choice was influenced by not just Mad Men but the quality of advertisement these days which is degrading day by day, and while watching them I felt like modifying them.

YouTube, The crap dealer

Recently, the ads on YouTube claim to push the premium stuff, but instead they sell you the Purina grade stuff.

The ads I view on YouTube annoy me to the point on hysteria. You’re trying to enjoy a bumping tune, or a harmonious melody while studying, and in the midst of your frustration you’re bombarded with World of Warcraft, Lucky Charms cereal and cat food commercials. There is a time and place for advertisements, and it’s not on a damn website for Artistic, musical and visual entertainment. It’s bad enough that you can’t watch 5 minutes of your favorite T.V show without witnessing a man tidal-waved by juicy fruit gum, and rained on by a skittles infested rainbow. Do we have no pride or dignity these days? What happened to give peace a chance and taking the time to enjoy the little things? Listening to music should be the least stressful part of your day. It’s the freedom of expression and a release of emotion, and nowadays I’m more aggravated after I watch YouTube then when I started surfing through videos. You watch a music video, and before it even begins you find yourselves craving junk food and wanting to jump off a bridge. Is this really necessary?

Why advertising?

Million Dollar Question - Why Advertising..well if i knew the answer I would be making it rain; like adding GRPs to TV ads and sitting in Bahamas with a billion dollar yacht paying others to write blogs for me.

But meh, this is me..not getting paid to write blogs during the prime time, watching CDN Specialty TV and trying to make this Blog BOUNCE.
Sometimes I feel the entire Mad Men series is a lie, they sip premium scotch and come up with million ideas (which I wish was my session rate) and make a DOPE campaign. When I drink scotch I usually end up puking and promising not to touch booze ever.
They wear classy suits and get paid like they work in digital advertising..
I often wonder how on earth Mark Zuckerberg came up with Facebook at such a small age, which has revolutionized the advertising industry..
At 17 all I cared was Butter Chicken and my Pokémon cards and when will my Pikachu evolve into Raichu so that I could kick everybody's Pokémon’s a$$..Sad story - It still hasn't evolved…and the question still remains unanswered... why advertising?

Future of Advertising

Let’s take a moment and think about the future of advertising in this blogpost..
Would we have Flying OOH? Would we have ads streamed thru Google Glasses instead of TV ?
With audience losing interest in various media, what going to be the next big thing? What medium
will the advertisers use to convey their message?
Now, getting technical about the whole scenario, there are many questions which needs to be
considered, especially by the current advertisers..
Will advertisers still need a traditional media?
Will they come up with some better analytics software’s to understand their audience?
Will we have a new social networking website which will take over Facebook?
New technology no doubt gives us the opportunity to decide where and when we consume the content we want. Despite the growth of new media, how will they modify and satisfy consumer’s ad hunger?

As say Issac Newton said, “What goes up, comes down”

Gadget Review: Samsung 3D LED TV

I recently bought a Samsung 3d led tv. Since my last living room companion was an old school CRT I had no past experience in these flat screens.
My quest started when I saw an ad for the new Samsung 3d LEDs where they use the panels to make live portrait kind of thingies. And I thought to myself WoW they are in 3D now, its time to change. So I went ahead and got it.  This tele has 4 HDMI ports which is good if you have many devices to connect to, like in my case I have a play station 3, HD DTH connection and an xbox 360, leaving me with one spare in case I want to connect my laptop or pc to it. All other ports are standard like the aux in & out, composite, LAN etc.
It boasts of a 200Hz panel which compared to other brands is more but even this I found a bit lagging in case of fast paced action like a soccer ball kicked had a blurry track.
The colors are very rich and vibrant on this 1920 x 1080 resolution panel. The 3D functions great and also has an added option of viewing non 3d programs in 3d via it’s on the go 2d to 3d conversion which is not that awesome as it sounds.
The only problem I found was that the 3D was not as satisfying as was depicted in the adverts. There was a feeling of depth to it, but nothing which left a surreal impression on me. It is great to show off to friends but nothing like anyone will use every day, personally I felt my eyes drying up when using 3D.

All in all the tele is great buy, is future proof for some years till 4k mainstream standard.

Effect of advertisements on Gen X

Advertisements primarily aim towards promoting the sale of any product. Before the age of electronics print media and word-of-mouth were the favored ones, fast forward to today we have radio, television, internet and print media being some of the major ones.
Advertisements play on the psyche of the buyer and in cases they may be able to create a demand where there was none. Like products promising to give you wings or making hordes of girls follow you just by a spray on deodorant.
The current generation being technologically more literate has more chances of being exposed to any kind of ads with the advent of online media. There is social networking and video streaming websites and cartoons on television or product placement in video games. There is a constant interaction between the internet and its users, and companies try to capitalize on it.

The current generation, due to this excessive bombardment of ads, is unable to distinguish between their requirements and their desire, whether they need it or they want it. And ads nowadays try to further this confusion. Products are shown as lifestyle defining rather than being lifestyle supporting. A phone to make you look “sexier”, a drink to make you “manlier”, a toy to make your meal “happier” are all examples of exploiting the innocence of today’s generation.
