Gadget Review: Samsung 3D LED TV

I recently bought a Samsung 3d led tv. Since my last living room companion was an old school CRT I had no past experience in these flat screens.
My quest started when I saw an ad for the new Samsung 3d LEDs where they use the panels to make live portrait kind of thingies. And I thought to myself WoW they are in 3D now, its time to change. So I went ahead and got it.  This tele has 4 HDMI ports which is good if you have many devices to connect to, like in my case I have a play station 3, HD DTH connection and an xbox 360, leaving me with one spare in case I want to connect my laptop or pc to it. All other ports are standard like the aux in & out, composite, LAN etc.
It boasts of a 200Hz panel which compared to other brands is more but even this I found a bit lagging in case of fast paced action like a soccer ball kicked had a blurry track.
The colors are very rich and vibrant on this 1920 x 1080 resolution panel. The 3D functions great and also has an added option of viewing non 3d programs in 3d via it’s on the go 2d to 3d conversion which is not that awesome as it sounds.
The only problem I found was that the 3D was not as satisfying as was depicted in the adverts. There was a feeling of depth to it, but nothing which left a surreal impression on me. It is great to show off to friends but nothing like anyone will use every day, personally I felt my eyes drying up when using 3D.

All in all the tele is great buy, is future proof for some years till 4k mainstream standard.

Effect of advertisements on Gen X

Advertisements primarily aim towards promoting the sale of any product. Before the age of electronics print media and word-of-mouth were the favored ones, fast forward to today we have radio, television, internet and print media being some of the major ones.
Advertisements play on the psyche of the buyer and in cases they may be able to create a demand where there was none. Like products promising to give you wings or making hordes of girls follow you just by a spray on deodorant.
The current generation being technologically more literate has more chances of being exposed to any kind of ads with the advent of online media. There is social networking and video streaming websites and cartoons on television or product placement in video games. There is a constant interaction between the internet and its users, and companies try to capitalize on it.

The current generation, due to this excessive bombardment of ads, is unable to distinguish between their requirements and their desire, whether they need it or they want it. And ads nowadays try to further this confusion. Products are shown as lifestyle defining rather than being lifestyle supporting. A phone to make you look “sexier”, a drink to make you “manlier”, a toy to make your meal “happier” are all examples of exploiting the innocence of today’s generation.
